SpaceX Stock Rises as Analysts Revise Price Targets After Q3 Results

Investors are reassessing the valuation of SpaceX following a surge in quarterly revenue and ambitious expansion plans for AI infrastructure.

By Christopher Reed ·

For investors holding shares of SpaceX, the overnight trading session brought an immediate shift in valuation expectations. Following the release of third-quarter financial results on October 20, the stock jumped approximately 8 percent in premarket trading on October 21. This movement follows the company’s closing price of $147.79 on the previous day. The rapid re-pricing reflects a swift change in sentiment among Wall Street analysts, who adjusted their long-term outlooks upward in response to the reported figures.

The core driver for this shift is SpaceX’s strong performance in the third quarter of 2026. The company reported revenue of $14.6 billion, a 161 percent increase compared to the same period last year. This figure significantly exceeded the consensus estimate, which hovered near $12.7 billion. Additionally, the firm swung to a net profit of $4.4 billion, reversing a loss from the prior year, while adjusted EBITDA reached $8.8 billion. These metrics suggest a business model that is scaling rapidly, particularly in its newer divisions.

The growth was heavily concentrated in the Super Intelligence division, which generated approximately $7.6 billion, representing nearly 830 percent year-over-year growth. This segment has become the largest revenue contributor, surpassing the Connectivity segment, which brought in $5.2 billion. Starlink’s subscriber base has expanded to 13.6 million users, providing a steady foundation for the company’s connectivity operations. The combination of these two segments indicates a diversified revenue stream that is less dependent on traditional launch contracts.

However, the forward-looking guidance presented on the earnings call introduces both opportunity and uncertainty. CEO Elon Musk and CFO Bret Johnsen outlined first-quarter 2027 revenue guidance of $33 billion to $37 billion, far above the $22 billion modeled by analysts. To support this, the company plans fourth-quarter capital expenditures between $35 billion and $40 billion, primarily for AI compute infrastructure in Memphis and Southaven. Management aims for 2.5 to 3 gigawatts of compute capacity by year-end, with pathways to 13 gigawatts by the end of 2027.

Analysts responded with a wave of price-target increases. JPMorgan more than doubled its target to $500, while Cantor Fitzgerald raised its to $345 and Barclays to $300. Other firms, including Citi, UBS, and TD Cowen, also adjusted their targets upward, citing the strong quarterly print and accelerating AI expansion. The consensus view is that the demand from hyperscalers supports pricing that allows for payback periods of less than a year, potentially as short as six months.

Despite the bullish tone, questions remain regarding the sustainability of such high spending. The elevated capital-expenditure plans, focused on AI compute, represent a significant financial commitment. Additionally, the formation of special committees to explore a possible combination with Tesla adds a layer of strategic complexity that investors will need to monitor. While the current trajectory is strong, the execution of these massive infrastructure projects will be critical to realizing the projected growth.

As the market digests these results, the focus shifts from immediate earnings to the company’s ability to convert its capital spending into sustained revenue. The rapid growth in the AI sector and the expanding Starlink user base provide a solid base, but the high stakes of the planned expansions mean that any execution missteps could have significant consequences. For now, the stock’s movement suggests that investors are willing to bet on the company’s ability to manage this growth.
