Arsenal fans in north London celebrated a 2-0 victory over Everton on Saturday that erased a three-point deficit against Manchester City. The win, played in heavy rain at the Emirates Stadium, places both clubs on 21 points after eight matches in the Premier League. For supporters of the Gunners, the result confirms their team is no longer trailing the season leaders but is instead locked in a direct battle for the top spot.

The tie in the standings became possible only because Manchester City suffered their first defeat of the season. Aston Villa defeated the champions 2-1 at Villa Park, ending an unbeaten start to the campaign. Nicolas Jackson scored twice for Villa, helping the home side secure their first home league win of the season and their third consecutive victory over City. This result allowed Arsenal to climb level with City, while Villa moved up to sixth place with 11 points.

Arsenal struck early in the match against Everton. In the seventh minute, a corner from Martin Odegaard created confusion in the box. Jordan Pickford saved the initial effort, but the ball was not cleared. Ezri Konsa punted the loose ball in from close range, scoring his first goal for the club. It was also Arsenal's first set-piece goal in 13 games. In the 68th minute, Ben White crossed from his left flank. Gabriel headed the ball into the net on his 200th Premier League appearance, while White played his 200th game for Arsenal.

At Villa Park, the match against City was decided by Jackson's clinical finishing. He opened the scoring in the sixth minute after John McGinn set him up following a heavy touch by Marc Guehi. Erling Haaland headed in a free-kick from Iliman Ndiaye to equalize for City after halftime. However, Jackson restored Villa's lead on the hour, finishing from a cutback by Ibrahim Mbaye to sneak the ball under Gianluigi Donnarumma.

City currently face additional pressure off the pitch, as they await the outcome of an appeal following a finding of 114 breaches of financial rules. Despite this, Jackson told TNT Sports that the team is focused on working game by game. In other matches, Tottenham Hotspur defeated Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, a venue they had not beaten in 36 years. Cole Palmer was sent off, and Mathys Tel scored the winner. Fulham also secured a 1-0 win over Coventry City, with Oscar Bobb scoring in the 80th minute.

The next round of fixtures will test both leaders, as Arsenal and Manchester City look to regain an edge in a tightly contested title race. Both teams have now dropped points in recent weeks, leaving the gap between the top of the table and the chasing pack extremely narrow. The Premier League schedule continues next week, with all teams aiming to extend their winning streaks.
