Lightning struck a group of adults waiting for an elementary school bus in the Phoenix suburb of El Mirage, Arizona, on Friday morning. The incident occurred shortly after 8:30 a.m. local time, according to the El Mirage Police Department.

Police and fire crews arrived at El Mirage Elementary to find four adults on the scene. Officials confirmed that no children were injured in the event. All four victims remained conscious and were transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The weather conditions at the time were severe. Carrie Thorpe, a local worker, described the intensity of the storm to KNXV. She stated, "the thunder was so loud, it felt like the building shook." Thorpe added, "It's crazy, and you hear about things like this, but how many times does it happen? It's sad."

Joseph Rivera, a representative of the El Mirage Fire Department, provided specific details regarding how one victim was injured. He reported that a patient was holding an umbrella at the time of the strike and felt electricity travel through the metal frame.

Fire officials advised residents to remain indoors as more severe weather approaches the region. The department emphasized the importance of staying inside during these periods to reduce the risk of further lightning strikes.
