Iran Shifts to Active Prep for Lethal Strikes
A classified intelligence memo indicates lethal attacks on American citizens are nearing execution in the Middle East and other regions.

American diplomats and citizens in the Middle East and select other nations now face a heightened risk of lethal Iranian action. A new intelligence assessment confirms that Tehran has moved from planning to active preparation for attacks against US personnel. This shift in threat level has prompted immediate adjustments to US diplomatic operations across the region.
Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton sent a memorandum to Secretary of State Marco Rubio on October 23. The document, which was also copied to CIA Director John Ratcliffe, details a sharp increase in Iranian efforts to target Americans. Clayton stated that lethal plotting efforts have reached advanced stages. He noted that intelligence agencies gathered this information through multiple channels, confirming the intensified push by Tehran.
Clayton wrote, "The lethal plotting efforts by the Iranians against US citizens have reached advanced stages in both the Middle East and certain other countries." He cautioned that the intelligence is relevant to a wider group of people than those currently cleared to see it. The underlying information had already been shared with senior members of Rubio's team. Clayton offered the secretary an additional briefing and promised to work to downgrade the classification of the data. This would allow Rubio to share details more widely with State Department staff who may be at risk.
The memo itself was marked unclassified and did not name specific targets or attack methods. It also did not identify any countries outside the Middle East where plots are being developed. The warning arrived as the State Department scaled back its diplomatic presence in several Middle Eastern countries. Washington cited fears of Iranian retaliation and the possibility of renewed US military operations against Tehran.
Earlier this week, US authorities ordered nonessential government employees and their families to leave Saudi Arabia. This decision followed an escalation in attacks by the Iranian-backed Houthis. Further staff reductions were ordered at embassies in the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Qatar, and Jordan. Some of these personnel had only recently returned to their posts after evacuations earlier in the conflict with Iran.
President Donald Trump spoke on Friday about the potential for further military action. He said the United States could carry out another operation similar to Operation Epic Fury if Tehran does not reach an agreement. "We may do another little Epic Fury. Or they'll agree," Trump said. The US is currently weighing additional military options while continuing diplomatic efforts to secure a deal with Iran.
