A 36-year-old British woman died in the Bahamas on Tuesday after a strong current separated her from her family during a snorkeling trip.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force reported that the incident occurred near the southern point of Bimini. The woman, her husband, and their two sons were in the water when the current swept both children away.

The mother attempted to reach her sons and was subsequently pulled under as well. Rescuers recovered the boys from the water, but the mother was taken to the North Bimini Ferry Dock shortly after 10 a.m. She was found unresponsive at the location.

Police officers from the Alice Town station received the report and found the woman had already been transported to a local clinic. A doctor pronounced her dead despite resuscitation efforts, which included CPR administered at the ferry dock.

The victim is believed to be from Stapleford in Nottinghamshire. The police force stated that foul play is not suspected and that an autopsy is scheduled to determine the precise cause of death.

A UK Foreign Office spokesperson confirmed officials are contacting local authorities to support the family. The department said its thoughts are with the relatives of the deceased.
