A cold front moved across Colorado on Friday, October 23, ending a period of warm weather in the southern part of the state. The system brought Pueblo a high temperature of 80 degrees Fahrenheit and a low of 52 degrees. Morning conditions in the city featured temperatures in the 50s, with breaks in the clouds allowing for sunshine and afternoon warming.
The front advanced from the west, bringing additional cloud cover and increasing the likelihood of storms further south. Rain chances in Pueblo’s south side were estimated at 10% to 20% for Friday, ahead of a more substantial increase during the weekend. Along Interstate 25, sunshine was expected to emerge around 10 a.m. as morning clouds cleared. The advancing front supported the potential for thunderstorms farther east and a few storms along the southern portion of the interstate.
Temperatures across the region are set to drop sharply as the front passes. Saturday’s high in Pueblo is forecast to reach only the 50s, a decline of approximately 30 degrees from Friday. In Colorado Springs, the forecast lists a high of 73 degrees and a low of 47 degrees. The front’s passage will continue into Saturday morning, further lowering regional temperatures.
Specific locations in the area show varied but cooling trends. Canon City faces a high of 75 degrees and a low of 49 degrees, with rain chances between 20% and 30%. Woodland Park is expected to see a high of 58 degrees and a low of 39 degrees, with afternoon clouds following morning sunshine. The Tri-Lakes area, including Monument, will see a high of 69 degrees and a low of 43 degrees, followed by Saturday highs in the 50s.
Farther south, Walsenburg and Trinidad are forecast to reach highs of 73 and 74 degrees, respectively, with lows of 49 degrees. Friday marks the warmest day for these locations over the next seven days, before weekend highs drop into the 50s. On the eastern plains, thunderstorms may return by Friday evening after a sunnier start, with afternoon temperatures in the 70s and 80s and lows in the 50s. Mountain areas are expected to see highs in the 60s and lows in the 30s.
Lingering moisture and flooding remain concerns in southwestern Colorado, where water levels may take time to recede. Conditions are expected to become calmer next week, with sunshine and some partly cloudy skies. Temperatures will gradually warm into the 60s. The preliminary Halloween outlook calls for temperatures in the 50s and 60s and dry weather, though that forecast could change.
