Nottingham Forest enter race for Chelsea star ‘desperate’ for transfer

The 22-year-old footballer appears to be excluded from Mauricio Pochettino’s plans at Chelsea, indicating his imminent departure during the summer transfer window. Nottingham Forest has entered the competition to sign Callum Hudson-Odoi, a Chelsea winger who has fallen out of favor. The Premier League rivals Fulham and Everton have also displayed interest in acquiring his services.

During the previous season, the 22-year-old was loaned to Bayer Leverkusen in Germany, under the guidance of Xabi Alonso. Despite participating in 21 matches across various competitions, he managed only two goal contributions. A desire for a fresh start has reportedly led him to seek a move away from his current situation.

Hudson-Odoi’s role within the Chelsea squad underwent a shift due to an ankle injury during the latter half of the 2021/22 season. Prior to this setback, he had consistently featured in both the Premier League and Champions League, making 14 starts in 28 matches. However, the emergence of Thomas Tuchel’s managerial tenure saw him spend three matches on the bench before being sent to the Bundesliga. This move aimed to create room within Chelsea’s sizable player pool.

Fulham’s interest in the player coincided with their sale of star striker Aleksandr Mitrovic to Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia for £50 million. This development has fueled speculation regarding a potential move for Hudson-Odoi, with West London rivals Fulham reportedly considering the England international as a potential recruit.

Adding to the mix, Everton and Nottingham Forest have joined the pursuit for the talented winger. Sean Dyche’s Everton and Forest have both entered what now shapes up to be a three-way contest for Hudson-Odoi’s signature.

Interestingly, Chelsea’s endeavors to secure players from Nottingham Forest are parallel to this situation. Brennan Johnson, who had an impressive breakout season, has garnered interest from Chelsea following his notable performances. Johnson’s double-digit goal tally includes two goals in the Carabao Cup, with only Taiwo Awoniyi outscoring him with 11 goals in the Premier League for Steve Cooper’s side.

The initiation of interest in the 22-year-old arose when Chelsea’s pursuit of Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise did not materialize as expected. This unexpected turn of events has prompted Chelsea to explore alternative options, potentially including Hudson-Odoi in negotiations. Given Forest’s £50 million valuation for the Welsh international, there is speculation that Chelsea could incorporate Hudson-Odoi into a potential deal, along with a reduced cash component.

In essence, the 22-year-old winger’s uncertain status at Chelsea has led to an intense competition for his acquisition among Premier League and Championship clubs. As he seeks a fresh start away from Stamford Bridge, Fulham, Everton, and Nottingham Forest have all emerged as potential destinations. Chelsea’s parallel interest in Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing transfer dynamics. The forthcoming developments in this transfer saga will undoubtedly impact the composition of squads and the competitive landscape across these clubs.
