Montpellier president latest on Chelsea’s offer for Wahi

Montpellier President Laurent Nicollin recently spoke to RMC Sport about rising star Elye Wahi, emphasising the player’s immense value in the transfer market. Nicollin believes that Wahi, aged 20, would be worth an astonishing €60 million if he were playing for either Olympique de Marseille or Olympique Lyonnais. He also confirmed that Chelsea has made an opening offer for the young talent and revealed that Tottenham Hotspur’s chief scout has also made contact, showing significant interest.
Chelsea considers Wahi a priority target and reportedly made an initial offer of €27.5 million, which Montpellier rejected. Despite the rejection, Nicollin expects Chelsea to come back with an improved bid for the talented forward. He acknowledged the existence of other offers for Wahi but indicated that they are awaiting more substantial bids from interested clubs.
Wahi showcased his potential during the previous Ligue 1 season, scoring an impressive 19 goals in 33 appearances. His remarkable performances have caught the attention of several European clubs, including Portuguese side Benfica, who are looking to bolster their attacking options after conceding the loss of Gonçalo Ramos to Paris Saint-Germain.
Nicollin expressed surprise at the relatively low market valuation of Wahi, given his age and impressive goal-scoring record. Comparing the valuations of other players like Bradley Barcola, whom Lyon reportedly demand €50 million for, and Lesley Ugochukwu, recently signed by Chelsea from Stade Rennais for €27 million, Nicollin highlighted the vast disparity in perceived value between clubs like Montpellier and bigger clubs like Lyon and Rennes. He firmly believes that if Wahi were playing for a higher-profile club like Lyon or Marseille, his value would easily soar to €50–60 million.
The Montpellier president hinted at having a specific valuation in mind for Wahi but chose not to disclose it to the public. He did, however, assert that if a club meets their valuation, they would be willing to negotiate Wahi’s departure. As of now, no deadline has been set for the potential transfer of the French U21 international, leaving the door open for negotiations to continue throughout the transfer window.
Wahi’s performances have created a buzz in the football world, attracting interest from top clubs across Europe. With his scoring ability and attacking potential, he has become a highly sought-after talent. As Montpellier evaluates incoming offers, they are keen on securing a fair deal that reflects Wahi’s true market value and potential.
Elye Wahi’s value in the transfer market has become a subject of intense discussion following Montpellier President Laurent Nicollin’s recent remarks. The young French forward’s impressive goal-scoring record and potential have attracted interest from top European clubs, with Chelsea being a priority suitor. Despite their initial offer being rejected, Chelsea is expected to return with an improved bid for Wahi. Other clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur and Benfica, have also expressed interest in the player. Montpellier views Wahi as a valuable asset and expects a more fitting offer to be made by potential suitors. As the transfer saga unfolds, the footballing world eagerly awaits to see where Wahi will end up and how much his undeniable talent will ultimately be valued.
