Chelsea finally secure shirt sponsorship worth more than £40m per season

Chelsea Football Club has recently secured an impressive shirt sponsorship deal with American tech giants Infinite Athlete, with the contract valued at over £40 million per season. The announcement of this lucrative partnership was initially slated for Tuesday, but a final approval from Premier League officials was awaited, causing a slight delay.
The speculation around this deal began to surface when rumours leaked from the club’s pre-season media day, prompting Chelsea fans on social media to engage in discussions about the impending shirt deal. A reliable source close to the negotiation later confirmed to Mail Online that the deal was indeed pending Premier League approval.
Assuming all goes well with the approval process, Chelsea, under the leadership of new manager Mauricio Pochettino, will debut the new branded kit during their Premier League opener against Liverpool on Sunday. Notably, this deal also encompasses Chelsea’s women’s team, led by Emma Hayes, and they are set to wear the same branded kit during their pre-season friendly against Roma next month.
This sponsorship agreement has been in the works for several months, culminating in the club’s successful search for a new shirt sponsor after their previous arrangement with mobile phone company Three concluded at the end of the previous season. The financial injection from this new partnership is a welcome boost for the club’s owner, Todd Boehly, and his consortium, while also averting the potential awkwardness of starting the 2023–24 season without a significant sponsorship in place.
Infinite Athlete, the tech powerhouse behind this deal, has ambitious aspirations to become a prominent player in the realm of global football. Their vision includes offering affordable player data solutions to clubs and granting fans the ability to watch matches from various camera angles. For Chelsea’s new manager, Pochettino, and his coaching staff, this means gaining access to cutting-edge AI-driven player data to aid in squad management.
For passionate fans, the partnership promises an enhanced experience as well. They will have access to the same detailed statistics through an app while streaming matches, effectively allowing them to immerse themselves in the game as if they were at Stamford Bridge, standing with friends in iconic sections like The Shed end or the Matthew Harding stand.
It’s worth noting that Infinite Athlete, which is also the parent company of another Chelsea affiliate, Tempus Ex, has already established substantial sponsorship agreements within the realm of American sports. They boast significant partnerships with the NFL and the US Collegiate Pac-12 Conference. Their initial partnership with Chelsea earlier this year marked their first foray into the Premier League, a development that brings great satisfaction to Chris Jurasek, the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of Chelsea FC.
In essence, Chelsea Football Club’s newly inked deal with Infinite Athlete not only secures a substantial financial gain but also paves the way for innovative technological advancements within the realm of football. With plans to revolutionise fan engagement and player data analytics, Infinite Athlete’s entry into the Premier League through this rolling contract has set the stage for a new era of sports technology collaboration.
